Organizing Resources

Bar None San Diego is a revival of the original Bar None group (see below). We write letters to people incarcerated in California State Prisons as an effort to build solidarity across prison walls. We also engage in popular education efforts, such as building an ofrenda for Día de los Muertos and leading a carceral bike tour of San Diego as part of Enero Zapatista. Detention Resistance is an abolitionist grassroots collective that was in accompaniment with people at Otay Mesa Detention Center and created mutual aid for migrants detained in temporary outdoor sites. (Please note that I am no longer part of the DR collective, and cannot put you in touch with the existing collective.)


Free Them All San Diego was a coalition organizations and individuals based in the San Diego-Tijuana region who are committed to closing Otay Mesa Detention Center and all migrant prisons. The Political Education Series Workshops organized by the coalition are available on YouTube. (Please note that I am no longer part of coalition, and cannot put you in touch with any existing coalition.)


Allies to End Detention was a group of community members concerned about the welfare of migrants and refugees detained by the government of the United States. Op-Ed in the San Diego Union Tribune. (Please note that this organization no longer exists.)


Bar None was a grassroots abolitionist group acting in solidarity with people in California prisons, primarily Pelican Bay State Prison’s solitary confinement unit. Founded in Humboldt County in 1999, Bar None went on indefinite hiatus in 2013.
